I love the last day of the year. There’s nothing like it for closure and it allows you to get all sentimental, sit back and reflect on the passing of time, make promises to yourself about things you want to do, and things you don’t want to do again or do any longer.
On this night, 12 years ago, Bird asked me to marry him. We hadn’t been together long, we were very young and very drunk and I think he probably got caught up in the romance of our first New Years together. He fell onto his knees and proposed and I made him stick to his promise and I’m glad I did. I’m so grateful that he still wants to spend his life with me.
What a year it has been. In 2011 we have welcomed a daughter and changed our family dynamic forever. We are now four people inextricably linked and sailing through life together.
They are not really resolutions as such but…in 2012 I want to be a better mother, be more patient, learn to cook quinoa and make it tasty, be a better wife, find new interests to share with Bird, teach Shine how to swim, teach Sun to write his name, go to Positano, embrace the little changes, be less anxious, be less precious. Love more.
Blog more. Thanks to all those out there who have made this the pleasure that it is by taking the time to read my posts and tiptap comments out to me. Here’s to 2012 and a chance to start afresh, new opportunities and new friendships.
Happy New Year!
