Basic Breadsticks & Crispbreads – GBBO #2

Bread and Crispbreads | BluebirdsunshineThis week on the Great British Bake Off it was all about bread. I was a bit scared of the almighty yeast as I haven’t had masses of success in the past. I decided to face my fears for the Great Bloggers Bake Off and with a picnic planned for tomorrow I thought I’d try breadsticks and crackers.

I used Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall’s basic dough recipe from his book, River Cottage Veg Every Day! It’s the same as this pizza dough recipe by HFW in The Guardian.

I halved the recipe and it made 8 breadsticks and about 16 crackers, which I sprinkled with sea salt, sesame seed, mixed seed or caraway seeds.

Shaping the breadsticks was definitely the toughest part. New respect for the bakers this week on GBBO!

I was so excited to hear the SNAP when I self-judged that I could sit like a loon tonight with a glass of wine and a slab of cheese and devour the lot with a snap, slather, slap. May need to make more tomorrow morning!

  1. I agree the shaping part was quite challenging but now that I know what to do, I think I’ll make them again sometime. Yours look beautiful! And congrats on getting the “snap” too. That was my main concern…

  2. these looks so delicate and pretty and i so love that you tied the breadsticks together with the straw like string (sorry it probably has a better name than that) and the garnish you added – i just want to reach in a try one to hear that snap! very well done πŸ™‚
