A little while back I was contacted and asked if I’d like to try out blinkbox and watch Despicable Me 2 with the family. It couldn’t have come at a better time as literally that same day Sun was hit by a scary allergic reaction and he was facing a week at home recovering.
I don’t know about you but when you’re trying to work and nurse a poorly child television and films are your saving grace. Popcorn helps too.
Sun loved the film, declaring it waaaaay better than the first film. ‘The happy song’ was his favourite thing about the film apparently, and we’ve been jigging to the soundtrack for a couple of weeks, he loves it. I tried to probe him about the storyline and he looked a little vague, so I’m guessing from his response that a lot of the narrative was lost on him. Never mind, it didn’t seem to affect his enjoyment and even though he watched it four times in a row, it got consistent big belly laughs from a little boy too poorly to move off the couch.
Any movie that can be watched on high rotation and keep Sun captivated allowing me to do a little work gets my seal of approval, and I have to admit to quite liking the soundtrack too and having a little boogie when ‘the happy song’ comes on. Nice one, Pharell.
It was great to get the chance to try out blinkbox as well. We’re already familiar with streaming services so it was good to see what makes blinkbox different. I like that it’s pay as you go, you can rent a film or TV episode and you have a short period to watch it from when you hit play. Or you can buy your media and keep it forever and ever. A bit disappointing that you can’t watch on iPhone, but surely an app for smartphones is on the horizon. In the meantime you can use plenty of other devices. Sun was happy to spend an age in waiting rooms with the help of my iPad and blinkbox app.
We were kindly provided with a rental of DM2 for purposes of this review, but all thoughts are my own and Sun’s. I’d highly recommend checking out Despicable Me 2 on blinkbox if you need to get some work done and have a poorly child!
