Daffodils always hit the shops and florist stands well before any other signs of Spring. Right around the time that I’m tiring of coats, scarves, mittens, muddy paths, icy cars and dark, dark days, they appear near shop counters. Slender green stems peeking out of buckets whispering: take me home and you’ll see, these dark days are numbered, I’ll show you.
It’s colder than it has been all winter so their bright yellow blooms are perfectly timed. They sit on my kitchen counter and seemingly all at once the yellow petals pop, leaping out amongst all the white and grey like arrows pointing to the changes that are on their way.
We’ve broken the back of winter! Bring on the spring!
